Introduction    Community Life    Newsletter    Campus Tour

With an international student body and faculty, the College provides a rich cultural, artistic and community life. In addition to its regular programs and classes, there is a full calendar of public lectures, weekend workshops, artistic events and summer courses.

Adjacent to the campus is the Sacramento Waldorf School, one of the largest Waldorf schools (K-12) in the United States. In addition there are four other Waldorf schools within the greater Sacramento area. Nearby is the American River Parkway with miles of bicycle trails, footpaths and recreational opportunities. Within a two-hour drive to the West are San Francisco and the Pacific Ocean, while only an hours drive to the East are the beautiful and scenic Sierra Nevada mountains.

At the center of the campus is a biodynamic garden which produces vegetables for a community supported agriculture cooperative and herbs for medicinal remedies. This garden provides some of the produce for vegetarian meals served from the College kitchen as well as offering numerous laboratory experiences for gardening classes.

In early 1991 a memorial contribution made it possible to install a flowform on the Rudolf Steiner College campus. Water flows through a series of linked sculptured forms and research shows that such movement and aeration has a purifying effect. These forms combine beauty and functionality in the service of protecting our natural environment.

The community surrounding Rudolf Steiner College includes an active branch of the Anthroposophical Society and other activities based on the work of Rudolf Steiner such as the Raphael Therapy Center—a medical/therapeutic facility and pharmacy; a local Biodynamic Association whose members cultivate several nearby gardens; a Christian Community Center; several Waldorf schools; and local music, eurythmy and drama groups. The office of the Association of Waldorf Schools in North America is also located in Fair Oaks.
